If you've ever wondered why some federal court jurisdictions refused to allow cell phones on the premises, the answer lies partially in the potential threat of your technological doohickies.
Wired reports a memo (.pdf) released by the Administrative Office of the Courts says phones could be disguised as James Bond-style dangers:
"These common devices present security issues because some can be and have been converted for use as weapons, including explosives."
Other, more grounded reasons smartphones cause problems in courtrooms include their capabilities to film and record proceedings, as well as disrupt them by ringing. Judges also worry jurors could use their web capabilities to research cases, swaying their opinions.
