The ABC's of Jars

By Kayla Holman

Imagine this. You are trying to find the perfect jar for a new product line. Hey, this might not be too far-fetched after all. Anyway, you're overwhelmed by all the packaging jargon, single-wall, double-wall, heavy wall. They're all the same, right? Wrong.

Plastic jars have different styles. A jar education will assist you in discovering the perfect packaging solution for your product. Remember what Uncle Ben says, "with great knowledge comes great responsibility". Well, maybe that's not the exact "Spiderman" quote, but you get the drift. Keep reading to enhance your spidey packaging sense.

Two pieces of plastic are used to create a double-wall jar. One piece creates the inner wall and the second piece wraps around and completes the external framework. Between the two plastic pieces is unoccupied space. This extra area gives the impression that the jar holds more product than it actually can. Your company could instantly become synonymous with generosity. Think you could live with that?

The double wall jars we carry come in black, white, natural and frosted colors. They range in size from to 8 oz and have either straight or rounded bases. Low profile jars are another double-wall option for cosmetic products.

Single-wall jars are made from one continuous piece of plastic. These jars are manufactured in a variety of styles. The Oval has a shoulder and straight sides, the Tuscany is characterized by narrow shoulders, bulging center and a tapered base.

Our single-wall jar sizes range from 1/8 oz to 32 oz, in various colors. Most are made from PET, but we supply options in both HDPE and eco-friendly Post consumer resin (see our post about this innovative plastic) as well.

Heavy wall jars are built like single-wall jars, from one piece of plastic. Additional resin is used on the outside to give the jar the squatty, thick look. Our stock is presented in clear and amber and ranges from to 4 oz.

Knowledge is power. Hopefully understanding the subtle differences of the jar styles will enable you to make the right decision for your product. Browse through our collection of jars, we may have just what you're looking for!

How 360 Tour Technology Can Improve Your Website

By Jamaal Cardenas

Virtual 360 tours work by capturing hundreds of thousands of images. These images then overlap and then join together to create one large image. This is fine in concept, but extremely difficult in practice to do properly. You cannot just manually hold a camera and it spin round a room. Otherwise you would not get the overlap correct and thus it would be nearly impossible to join together to make a flawless image. So instead the professionals will use a computer controlled camera and tripod, which makes tiny movements on the camera to take the photos. This makes joining the images quick and as the overlaps are uniform, they are correct- making a flawless virtual tour.

The images that are taken will normally be better than HD in quality. These high quality images once stitched together will then form one flawless image of immense quality. This shows off your location to the highest standard and results in customers being amazed at the level of detail at which they can view your virtual tours in. The current technology that delivers virtual tours is not able to fully show off the full detail of the image, but because you already have this extra detail, your tour is future proof.

The method mentioned above is not the only one that can be used. It is however the one that offers the best results. Some companies will capture their images with a single lens system. These are great for estate agencies where it is cost over quality. These lenses will bounce the light round a 360 degree area, thus allowing the camera to capture 360 degrees in one shot. As you are trying to get all 360 degrees within one image you can not get anywhere near the detail of separate images. Not only that but you will not have the ability to pan up and down, just left and right. This way they are a get in and get out product for an estate agent where they are not looking at spending long at a property. If you are paying big bucks than do not settle for lower quality than the best when it comes to a virtual tour. This will be noticed by your sites visitors.

You would think that hosting your virtual tour would be hard. It is not though, as you will find that the company who made the tour will host it for you. Alternatively they can assist you in getting it hosted on the same server as your current website. Which ever way you look at it, it's less stressful than you think. Commonly the virtual tour company will talk directly with your web designer and so you don't have to do anything other than agree on a location for the tour to be placed.

Once the virtual tour is on your website, you can just sit back and let your customers love it. Companies will make different features available to your guests to use. These include things like hotspots which are little pins on the image which reveal extra information upon hovering over it. Very useful for giving people more information about something before leading them to a full article on something.

The Differences Between Shared HostingAnd Dedicated Hosting

By Janis Reid

A commonly asked question when it comes to a hosting environment is if to opt for a dedicated or a shared setup. Several factors have to be thought about when making these choices, dedicated servers may be complete overkill for many setups, but shared hosting could mean you don't get the amount of resources you need to run your website.

The cost factor of hosting

Possibly the most prominent consideration in choosing business hosting is going to be your pocket. The amount that you can pay for hosting can have huge differences in price for solutions and of course the level of the company. The difference between uk business class hosting and standard shared hosting is massive. Business class webhosting will offer much great support and the reliability of the service will be second to none but does come at a premium. A tight budget is normally used with standard shared hosting. Is your hosting going to be for business or personal use? If it's for business and you can't afford for it to be down, find a business class web host. Is the website a personal website do you really need to pay a premium for it? If not, a shared web host would suffice.

Another consideration to ask yourself is do you require a server or would a shared hosting be OK. Does your website use a lot of resources? Busy websites are often not suited to a normal shared hosting platform. Should your website not get many visitors each day then a dedicated server would be complete waste. With that, dedicated servers attract a higher price tag, where as shared hosting will cost you significantly less.

Managed or unmanaged dedicated servers

Using a managed dedicated server for your web hosting environment is normally the safer and best option. Managed dedicated hosting will mean the server gets looked about by the hosting provider. Management levels vary, but you can choose between just having security updates and patching, right through to having your websites tweaked and taken care of. When you get a managed service, expect the price to rise. Should you be experienced admin then you would probably opt for an unmanaged dedicated server. This is of course a much cheaper option but you are responsible for taking care of the security and updates through to OS issues etc. The hosting company still takes responsibility for network and hardware issues. With a shared hosting package, the server level security will be take care of as with any other server issues. But you still have maintain a secure website your self.

Another option- virtual dedicated servers

This is the other option to look at with virtual dedicated servers. This is looked upon as the middle ground. While you don't have your own dedicated hardware, you will have your own dedicated resources. Of course you'll be separated from other hosting accounts that might cause issues in a shared environment. Virtual dedicated servers being middle of the road options mean the resources you get for the price reflect this and can normally get upgraded with ease.

Finding a shared or dedicated hosting provider

You have now made your decision, you will need to look for a provider to match requirements. Remember to do your research, and test the new provider. Any provider worth its salt should give you confidence in the hosting solution they are offering you.

The Various Forms Of Bad Clients You Can Expect To Encounter As A New Business Owner

By Carroll Mcintosh

As a new business owner, you will quickly find that a lot of people are quite frankly mad. From the customer that cries, to the nutter that turns up at your home, you will meet all sorts off weird people. These are five particular favourites.

Our first problem customer is the know-it-all customer. He or she is a world leading expert with PHD in what they are paying you to do. Their knowledge and intelligence is unrivalled. The know-it-all customer will tell you how to do your job, assuming you are utterly incapable and are beneath them. Ironically, this kind of customer is the most prone to breaking things. As you might have guessed, it is physically and intellectually impossible that it might be their fault.

If you are a fan of soap operas, you will be familiar with the melodramatic customer. They panic at every given moment. They aren't malicious, but they are a real pain to deal with. They will never wait all weekend for you to get back to them. Watch a real panic attack when things properly break! When talking about 'things going wrong' this might mean that their services goes offline for thirty seconds. You would think the world had ended from their sobbing down the phone.

You will just love the royalty customer. If they could hand sign their emails to you with royal ink, they would. When this customer contacts you, they will do so like they are planning a state visit. They are also on a constant watch out, when you might slip up and not communicate with them with the utmost respect. You are a lesser being to this customer! The royalty customer is centre of the university, never mind all your other customers. This is the customer you would love to meet down a dark alleyway.

We will introduce the cheap-ass customer shortly, as they share some of the traits of the devious customer. The devious customer spends every waking hour studying your website and forums. If you run a special offer, they will automatically assume they are eligible. In their world you and your competitors are all over priced. They are always moaning how expensive you are, and are always dodging their bills.

The devious customer is our final contestant. Similar to the cheap customer, but with a nasty side. The devious customer will manipulate any situation to their own advantage. They will try every means to get their own way. As with the above customers, it is best to turn away their business given a choice! That is not to say all customers are like this. Problem customers account for a small minority.

Help With Deciding On A Service Or Product For Your New Company

By Briana Jake Woodward

Count how many products you can buy. Whether it be on the internet, or in the high street. There must be thousands and thousands of different products and services. Scratch that. Worldwide, there are thousands of products and services you can sell. So as a new company, what product or service do you choose to sell? Well first things first, do you want to offer a product or service, and what's the difference?

Run a service that you excel at

It makes perfect sense when you think about it. They say you should do a job you love, and what better way to form a company that provides a service you are very good at. Ever wonder how a lowly baker ends up with a string of bakeries several years down the line? Starting a company that offers a service you are passionate about will no doubt help you provide a good product and happy customers. Choosing to offer a service you aren't sure about isn't always a good idea. While you can employ experts to fill the gaps, its always a good idea to be good at what you are offering.

Choose a 9-5 service or product

Trust me, I'm talking from bitter experience. Don't get me wrong, running a business is hard work, but then so can be the rewards. However don't be fooled into the notion that you have to work 12 hours a day 7 days a week on a company. If a business relies on you that much, something is wrong. Services to avoid, including business web hosting, and game servers if you don't want to have a breakdown! You will be on call 24/7. If you want to work happy, setup a 9-5 company where you work from an office.

Make a clear divide between work and home

Work from an office from the very beginning. Working from home is a bad thing, don't listen to the rumours! Not only is it near impossible to motivate yourself at home, you can't separate work and personal time. Unless you live in a mansion, it won't look impressive when you want to meet and impress clients either. If you can't meet and impress your clients, your business is going to struggle.

Make money, because that's what its all about

Why else would you want to work? Choose a product or service with good profit margins. Before you setup a company, do your research on what you want to offer. Competitor analysis is always a good idea as a starter. What pricing will you have to compete on with competitors? Look at suppliers- how much will it cost to provide the service? Before registering and setting up a company, you need to know your product or service inside out.

Running companies should be great fun

Once you have found the best company formation agent to form your company, you will spend at least eight hours a day working. And then there's the travel to and from work. It's arguable you will spend more time working than you do any other activity, including sleeping! Thus whatever you are offering as a company, you need to enjoy it. Choose a product or service you love. Enjoy your work, you'll do a better job, and have a successful company.

Worst Company In America Sweet 16: Ticketmaster Vs. Sony

We were going to buy tickets to this Sweet 16 battle, but Ticketmaster tried to charge us twice the face value for printing the tickets at home. And then we looked into watching the online stream, except our computer won't work properly since Sony's copy-protection software exposed it to malware.

In Round One of WCIA 2011, Ticketmaster slaughtered PayPal, with nearly 80% of the vote. Could the fee fiend be gunning for a second year in the Worst Company championship death match?

Meanwhile Sony showed renewed strength in its victory over Dell. Does the underdog have what it takes to pull off an upset of this magnitude, or is Sony just more fodder for the Ticketmaster mill?

This poll will close at noon ET on March 31, so be sure to vote now!

Starbucks CEO Laughs At The Notion That His Coffee Costs $5

Katie Couric recently interviewed Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz on CBS Sunday Morning and asked him if he thought the company had a "tin ear" to what people were going through with the recession. Perhaps, she suggested, they couldn't afford to pay "$5 on their coffee every day." Schultz's response was to laugh. You see, Starbucks coffee only costs $1.50.

Couric: "Do you think that the company, and you, had a tin ear about what people were experiencing during the height of the recession?"

Schultz: "No."

Couric: "You know, that maybe they couldn't spend $5 on their coffee every day?"

Schultz (interrupting, laughing): "Katie! It's not five bucks! It's not five bucks, let's get that right! It's $1.50!"

Couric: "No, for these fancy coffee drinks, that people are addicted to! It's a lot more than $1.50, Howard."

Schultz (laughing in disbelief): "Ok, Ok. We did not have a tin ear."

Couric: "Little bit?"

We're out of touch with Starbucks prices, so we'll just leave this one up to you, the consumer. Which millionaire is right?

TurboTax Eats Tax Return, Apologizes With Free Software

(Ajent.Orange)

Here's a story about TurboTax that is at least a little bit heartwarming. Tyler filled out all of his tax information on the TurboTax website, and paid for an extra upgrade to save himself some data entry for his investments. But somehow, the TurboTax servers ate his 2010 return, and the information was nowhere to be found. He steeled himself for a long wait on the phone and a vicious fight with rude Intuit representatives, but that's not what happened.

About a month ago I signed into my TuboTax.com account from years prior and began assembling my tax return from about a dozen documents. Since I live in WA, we get to skip the state tax part, but I do have to purchase a $20 upgrade to "Basic Plus" to make importing a bunch of stock information from a brokerage account happen automatically.

Last week I was almost finished, just waiting on one last thing, so I printed out a copy for my friend to look over. That $74 refund was money in the bank!

Until I logged in on Friday evening and everything had disappeared from my TurboTax account. I searched high and low, reset my username and password thinking I stumbled into the wrong account, and dug through my mailboxes confirming credentials with prior years. I could view old returns, but 2010 had entirely disappeared; so had my $20 upgrade.

I started clicking on their website looking for help and was almost annoyed that it was going to do anything but give me a phone number, but I was totally wrong. They gather some basic information from you online, assign you an "Incident ID", and then give you the phone number which, first thing, asks for your incident ID. After that, a human being immediately answers the phone. No hold time on Friday at 6pm PST 3 weeks before taxes are due? Cool.

After 30 minutes and Tier 2 support, nobody had any idea where my tax return went. They could see a problem considering I had an order number to upgrade my account that had disappeared from it, but there was no good explanation. The only activity they showed on my account in 2010 was my sign in earlier that evening when I realized all of my previously entered information had disappeared. I was holding a printed 2010 TurboTax.com-prepared return (the one I had sent off for review by a friend and gotten back) throughout most of the call to convince myself I hadn't hallucinated getting 95% done with my taxes already.

I had dinner plans so I said it wasn't the end of the world if I had to input all of the forms again, but I obviously didn't want to pay for the $20 upgrade a second time. Their solution was more than acceptable: 1) give me a free copy of "TurboTax Deluxe" to download ($50 product), and 2) refund my original $20 upgrade.

While I do have to spend some time inputting all of this information again and am slightly concerned that all the information vanished in the first place, this could have gone a very different way with a company that didn't allow its front line customer service reps so much ability to do their job: make customers happy. I'll be back next year, TurboTax.

Yay, happy customers! Yay, empowered customer service representatives! It's sad that this is newsworthy, isn't it?

Well-Heeled Travelers Hate Flying These Days Even More Than Us Poor Folks

(MartinRottler)

Lest you think it's just those of us eking out a meager living that are unhappy with the growing trend toward stripped-down flights with a la carte fees, a new survey says that those who can afford to fly are even angrier than we are.

From the L.A. Times:
Fliers with annual household incomes of $100,000 or more are nearly twice as likely as travelers from households making less than $50,000 a year to have negative feelings toward their airline, according to an online survey by the Connecticut marketing research firm PhoCusWright.

The firm's research director tells the Times that part of the reason for the disparity is that those paying for business and first-class travelers are spending loads of cash on their tickets but still feel like they are being nickel-and-dimed: "When you spend that much money, you have higher expectations... There is definitely a connection between price points and satisfaction."

High-income fliers are unhappier with airlines, survey says

FedEx Routes Document To Wrong City, Annoys Law Professor

(lungstruck)

Fedex Office, the entity formerly known as Kinko's, offers a service where you can upload a document, have it printed at a store near you, and pick it up. How wonderful! Unless the system, in its infinite wisdom, sends your document to a store that is a 4-hour drive away. That's what happened to a UCLA law professor, who tried to call FedEx and fix the situation. Maybe this would have worked had the customer service rep been capable of basic communication in English.

He blogged about the incident:

I've got a 400 page document that I wanted printed on 3-hole pre-punched paper. Since I'm working at home, I thought it would be easy to print it using FedEx Office online printing and pick it up at my local FedEx office instead of schlepping all the way down to my office at UCLA. WRONG.

Instead of printing at my local FedEx/Kinkos store, their automated system decided to print it at a store in Poway, California. Approximately 100 miles—and a 3 to 4 hour drive in traffic—from my house.

Then I call Federal Express customer service and get some moron with an impenetrable accent who, as near as I can tell, kept asking for the tracking number on my package! Where did they hire this guy? And what third world shithole do they have him penned up in? When my repeated efforts at basic communication failed, I gave it up as a bad job. I'll just print the damned thing at work on Monday.

That's the spirit!

In situations like this, it's a good idea to just hang up and try calling again. The second or third phone call yields a different, more competent representative. Or e-mail someone in power at Federal Express and let them know how their terrible customer service lost them 400 pages' worth of business.

College Students Turn To Some Interesting Methods To Pay For School

(Mobilus In Mobili)

Back in my day, paying for college meant babysitting or working as a waitress, and yes, applying to every scholarship/grant in existence. But kids these days, boy, are they getting creative when it comes to saving up funds to pay for education!

Tuition costs are up, reports SmartMoney.com, and the amount of financial aid available is down. So what's a college co-ed to do? For some flipping burgers or working at the union isn't bringing in enough dough, so they're turning to alternative means of fundraising. The good news is, 72% of high school students heading off to college think it's their responsibility to help pay for college, according to a January survey by the College Savings Foundation.

Some of the ways they're making money include:

Federal Courts Fear Bombs Disguised As Smartphones

(Ninja M.)

If you've ever wondered why some federal court jurisdictions refused to allow cell phones on the premises, the answer lies partially in the potential threat of your technological doohickies.

Wired reports a memo (.pdf) released by the Administrative Office of the Courts says phones could be disguised as James Bond-style dangers:

"These common devices present security issues because some can be and have been converted for use as weapons, including explosives."

Other, more grounded reasons smartphones cause problems in courtrooms include their capabilities to film and record proceedings, as well as disrupt them by ringing. Judges also worry jurors could use their web capabilities to research cases, swaying their opinions.

Stupid Shipping Gang Underpackages Glass Jar, Mauling Customer

We like to post pictures of items comically overpackaged by the Stupid Shipping Gang, in order to point, laugh, and call attention to the wastefulness. Nicole's experience shows what can happen to consumers when an item is stupidly packaged: Amazon sent her a woefully underpackaged glass bottle of vitamins, which broke in transit and cut Nicole's finger when she went to open it. Now Amazon won't give her a refund until she sends the box of broken glass, vitamins, plastic wrap, and a tiny bit of blood back.

I received a package from Amazon today. Not a third party, or whatever, but from Amazon. I order from them a LOT, especially now that they offer subscribe and save. The packaging often leads me to wonder what on Earth I ordered and forgot about. I have ordered several items in the past week, but nothing that required such a large box, so I was unsure what this box contained.

I opened it to see a large jar of vitamins in the corner of a box large enough to hold 3 more jars. It was taped in a layer of bubble wrap and a few of those bags of air were tossed into the box. Not enough to actually provide any protection. Maybe this should have led me to the assumption that the jar was glass, but it didn't. I don't know if I've ever seen a glass jar of vitamins before.
