Your next DVR might be in the cloud

You don't necessarily need a cable or satellite TV subscription to have a DVR, but the allure of recording your favorite TV shows and skipping past the commercial interruptions when you watch them later is one of the last threads that keeps many TV entertainment enthusiasts tethered to their pay-TV providers. Sony's PlayStation Vue already offers a cloud-based DVR for many of its channels, and Sling TV is beta-testing its own version.

Cord-Cutter Confidential columnist Jared Newman was able to secure an invitation to be a beta tester, and he tells us all about it in this week's edition. And since we're on the cusp of the holiday season, Now Streaming columnist and film critic Jeffrey M. Anderson has pulled together another great collection of traditional holiday movies (and a few choice TV episodes) now available on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and other services.

We have plenty more to offer you this week, so please hop over to the site and take a look. We welcome your feedback, too, whether you want to comment on our Facebook page, other social media, or directly to me at mbrown@techhive.com. I won't be able to respond to every comment, but I'd really like to hear how we might serve you better.

Happy holidays!
